A panel of students, faculty, and staff will guide the conversation. Speak Out Against Anti-Asian Violence! The CSI community is invited to speak out against the anti-Asian hate that has increased since COVID-19 emerged. Here are archival videos of his talks at CUNY/AAARI and information about him. Hope you enjoy and learn from these talks. Now, AAARI has assembled these archival videos into one loop. Over the years, he gave talks at CUNY’s Asian American Asian Research Institute (AAARI). Corky’s photos will continue his mission of illustrating and illuminating the faces, places and stories of New York’s Asian American community throughout the world. His documentation and dissemination of his images from these events established him as a renowned, force-of-nature photojournalist and activist. For the past five decades, Corky seemed to be a presence at every AAPI political, social and cultural event taking place throughout New York City.

Remembering Corky Lee: BMCC’s Asian Heritage Month committee mourns the passing and celebrates the legacy of Corky Lee, the self-proclaimed, “undisputed unofficial Asian American Photographer Laureate.” Born and raised in Queens, he was a self-taught photographer who graduated from Queens College where he studied American History.

Here’s a look at the full slate of events planned in celebration of AAPI Heritage Month across CUNY. When he became an important Asian American literary voice years later, Bulosan wrote that ‘The human heart is bigger than the world.’ We should all be guided by that affirmation, buoyed by the knowledge that education and collective action can counter racism and vanquish hate.” As I reflect on this sad resurgence, I am reminded of Carlos Bulosan, a Filipino American labor organizer and poet who likened the racism and mob violence he experienced in the 1930s to fleeing the scene of a crime he didn’t commit. We reject the racism and xenophobia that is fueling these attacks by examining the roots of bigotry and our nation’s long and troubled history of anti-Asian violence. “We respond to these unconscionable attacks on our loved ones, colleagues and neighbors by celebrating and championing Asian Americans’ diverse cultures and history. “As we continue to confront a wave of racist violence against the AAPI community, CUNY’s observance of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month this year is weighted with historic significance,” said Chancellor Félix V.
